You can't just bin old tyres — they're classified as controlled waste. Here's what responsible disposal looks like, and how we handle it for you.
Used tyres are classified as controlled waste in the UK — you cannot put them in your household bin, take them to most household waste recycling centres, or dump them. Illegal disposal of tyres can result in significant fines. So what happens to your old tyres when they're replaced?
How Tyres Are Recycled in the UK
The majority of end-of-life tyres in the UK are processed through a shredding and granulation process. The resulting crumb rubber is used in sports surfaces, playground flooring, road construction, and industrial products. Steel wire is extracted and recycled separately.
